I know even though it is not the main focus for making money on the internet marketing, but it is related subject that you can NOT ignore.  When you have a wonderful product or service, you want to spread the word to the public so that they know what you have.  In another word, you need to bring eye balls to your site.  In order to have a lot of traffic to your site, I have found that there are a little trick that can make your site go viral. 

These two methods share the same ultimate goal—boost traffic to your site.  One of them takes a little more work on your part and costs you money.  You need to have Facebook and Tweeter account, plus a WordPress plugin.  You need to create the Facebook app and all of those stuff.

Whether you are an affiliate or Google Adsense publisher, you need to know about On-page optimization.  It is important because you need to have  your website page rank well on first page of Google. If you don’t, you won’t have a lot of free traffic.  When you don’t have a good traffic, you don’t make money with your site.  However, if you drive paid traffic to your site, no need to worry about on-page optimization, but it may not suitable for you if you’re a noobie.  Also if you have some money, you can outsource this task.  It largely depends on each person individually.

What is on-page optimization?

It is all about the factors that you can control on your site.  And they can affect your web page listing in natural search.  It is ranging from  the HTML code, meta tags, keyword, and keyword density, but some people would include Keyword Research and Analysis, implementation of 301 Permanent Redirect, submission of XML Sitemap, and other items as part of the optimization.  However, I am not going to get into more depth.  I am going to talk about the essential items that you need to know.  And you need  to continue learning SEO as you progress in your Internet business journey.

What can you do with the on-page?

1-You page  Title

    It is the most important keyword. The page title  preferably contain the keyword term/phrase as the first word(s) if you want to rank well.

2- Meta Description

Next, your page meta description should be brief and very concise description about content of your page and it should be a unique description.   The limit is 200 characters maximum.  It contributes to the search engine ranking and click-through rate (CTR). 

3- Meta keywords

    It is a short and precise list of the most important keywords of your page.  They are similar to  the tags in the blog format.  The meta keywords help your site rank well  in your specific keywords .

    Note:  When people talk about meta tags, they are usually referring to meta description and the meta keywords.

4-Uniform Resource Locator (URL)

Length

    The short URL tends to perform better, however you may not find the exactly short url contained the long tail keyword phrase unless you add a suffix or prefix to it.

Keyword location

    The target keyword(s) should be closer to the domain as much as possible.

5-Body tags

    Heading,_h1,h2,h3 keyword density

    Your keyword should not be less than 3% percent throughout the content.  Otherwise, the search engines, such as Google,  consider you stuff keyword.  And they may penalize your site.
 

   H1 headline

    It is very important tag for on-page optimization.

    h2,h3-they are even less important than the H1 tag and carry very little to SEO value.

   image file name

    It can have a big influence on the traffic because it is the source of your blog visit.  It is highly recommended you to use keyword as the name of image on your post.

    Bold

    It appears to carry a little SEO value.  However, it is the best practice to bold keyword or keyword phrase at least once in your post.

    Italic/emphasized

    I recommend you use these italic/emphasized in your blog post because they are surprisingly carry a little more correlation to the ranking than bold keyword.

  Other plugins

To help you speed up the on-line optimization process, there is a plugin call SEO Pressor that provides you some sort of on-page optimization.  Here is a free one that is similar to a paid version.  It is clone version from Blogger High.  Check it out, you definitely find it very useful in term of doing on-page optimization.

You may know that Google already setup the algorithm on how the way you are assigned the page ranking of your site.  Some people would say that your page ranking has a lot of influences on Google search engine.  Is there a relationship between the page ranking and the search engine ranking?

Before talking about the relationship between those two, I believe Google ranks your site by the fresh content on  your site.  The more update on your site, the more ranking you will get, but It would not ranks your site based on the fresh content on your site alone.  There are many factors involved with the way Google ranks your site such as the authority and community like.  If you have a lot of traffic to your site, Google would think your site is important because you serve a community.  Then in a short period of time, it would bump your page ranking very quick.  This is based on my observation.

Speaking of page ranking and the search engine ranking there is no relationship between these two.  You can have a page rank of 0 and out rank websites with page rank of 5.    It depends on the keyword that site is using and a lot more factors, such as the content of site.

My advice is to concentrate on getting a higher search engine ranking, instead of a higher page rank.  Being higher in the search engine results is what’s going to drive up your traffic.  In order to be higher in the search engine, you have to do hard work, such as pumping fresh content related to keyword(s) you want to rank, back links, and traffic.

You and I love to have a lot of traffic to our site because you want to share the internet surfers or your readers what you know so that they would learn something useful from you.  Or you want to offer them your solution to their problem.  You  are the expert and authority in a certain subject.

As you all know that traffic means making or breaking business.  If there is no traffic, there is no business.  After having some traffic, we want to have some comment.  You want to engage in a conversation with our readers and want feed back how you are doing.  But how do you get traffic and comment on your blog?

Here are my few suggestions on how to get traffic.

Good design: You must have a unique and brandable website and have a great look and feel.  The great design can draw people’s attention because it has a first impression that your readers would find something cools you offer.  It is a one of a kind environment where they hope they find the solution to their problem.  Good design can also make people to observe around longer than a plain and simple site.

Valuable content: On top of the great design, your posts must have a unique and valuable content that the readers find them useful and informative.  Otherwise your loyal readers would not come back for more information.  On top of that, you would not find any unique visitors either.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO): If your blog is new, you have to submit it to major search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN.  Moreover, your posts should have keyword rich content.  That way you do not have to spend a lot of effort to promote your site.

How do you get comment on your blog?

Content: Again it is imperative to have a good content in the first place in order to have your readers leave you comments.  They want to gain a benefit from your blog before they place their comment.  As you know, they want to have a backlink to their site after they learn a few tips from your blog content.

WP plugins: There are few plugins that can help you get more comments.  The most common ones that most bloggers use are “CommentLuv” and “Top Commentators widget”, “NoFollow Free”, and “CommentRelish”.

Placing comment on other blogs: It seems that commenting on other blog would bring traffic to your site, but remember to place useful comment or to provoke a meaningful discussion so that other readers would benefit from it.

This is another avenue to expose your site or blog to a segment of marketing place.  It is also  a great way to expand your readership to the next level if you are a blogger.  It is a way to show them what you got in front of their faces in order to get their attention.  You have to let the world know.  It is marketing.

For advertising your own product,  it is a great way to let people in your industry know what your site or blog has to offer as their benefits.  It is either product or service to the community.  Those are the solutions that they are looking for.  You have to be a problem solver to serve that market segment. Advertising is the way to let the consumers know what you got to offer.

There are paid and free advertisement.  Here I just concentrate on the free one because this is probably what you want to know if you just started a blog or have a new site.  I would not include the newspaper ads, but they are mostly free classified ads through the internet sites and forums.

Writing a classified ad is really easy once you get a grasp of it.  After you have a profitable copy, you only need to spend a few minutes each day reposting it to the classified ads sites.

How to write a great classified ads

Have a compelling headline: This is the first thing that your targeted visitors will see.  Spend a great deal of time writing a quality headline which contains benefit-drive words such as “secrets”, “discount”, “limited time only”.  These keywords are proven to get a high click through rates.

Provide quality photographs and pictures: You are allowed to add pictures to your ads if you post your ad with USFree Ad.  Good pictures carry a lot of weight and make your ad more appealing and attractive. Picture is worth a thousand words!

Use bullet points:  Internet surfers tend to scan through content on website.  So bullet points help the reader to read your ads easily.  Do not use long paragraph in your ads because people won’t bother to read it and will click away.

Use a “Call-to-action” word:  This tells a visitor to take an action that you want him or her to do, such as to click your website, to buy your product, or to sign up for your newsletter.

The ads at a forums that is related to your site is worth the time to explore and would generate extra traffic to your site if your are creative and think out side of the box.  You have to show them what you got for their benefits, especially solutions to their problem.  You have to be thinking what the readers or consumers want.  And you serve them before you get a compensation.

All internet marketers want targeted traffic to their sites in order to sell their product.  They want visitors to see the products that solve the readers’ problems.  If you are a blogger this scenario still applies to you too.  You want a lot of visitors become your audience.  In order to do that you have to blog what they are looking for.  This can be done after you have a valuable and unique content and promote it to the maximum level.   There are four(4) ways to get targeted traffic.

1- Type-in domain name: If you have a domain name that matches the type-in keyword that the visitors are looking for, then you have a gold mine.  The traffic to your site would come without too much effort.  When they search for the keyword, they would land on your site.  The problem is there are too many sites that are competing for visitors.  You have to fight to get your site shown on the first page of Google.  Search engine optimization is the key to do that.

2- Article submission to directory: You would have a targeted traffic when you submit your articles that contain your keywords that you want to target in your niche.  Most site directories allow you to have back links in your bio or your resource box.  It can improve search engine rankings, too.

3- Forum posting: Forum participation can provides a back link to your blog or site.  In order to do that, you must have your signature set up.  It improves your web presence without spending too much money.

4-Trading links: You can trade your link with other blogs that are in the same niche, but are not competing for your visitors.  As long as they are complementing each other, it is going to be fine.

There you have all of four ways to get targeted traffic to your site or blog.  Some techniques are taking a little of your time to achieve a maximum result.  Every action has reaction.

Blog’s success means differently from one blogger to another. You may count a number of comments as success, but some bloggers would think about how much money they make as their blog’s success.  For some, it could be traffic and other may consider the subscribers as their success.  Here are a few measures that some bloggers use to measure how their blogs are doing.

Traffic: Different bloggers seem to have preferences for different aspects of traffic.  Also different tools would provide different result.  The most popular traffic measurement is Alexa toolbar that provides the related links, traffic rankings and more.

Unique visitors: Unique visitors means to count the number of people who visit your blog.   However, it is not accurate as it sounds because there is no way to actually know who is visiting your blog with confidence.  Also you never know if you have readers who choose to read your content in feed form rather than view your blog in their web browser.

Page views: Page views means the number of pages read in a web browser.  Majority of bloggers would like to know how many page views they have on each day and a monthly basis.  To see how popular and successful blog you have, you need to know which blog post is gaining the most attention.  It means how many page views you get on that post.

Hits: Hits are the count of the number of requests sent for a file to the server.  Even though it sounds useful, it is unhelpful because every request for any file is counted.  Here is why.  If you have a page containing 2 images, one request for that page is counted as three hits.

Subscribers: Counting subscribers is a good indicator how popular blog you have because those are the people who want to read your content long term.  They are definitely your loyal readers.  And there are two kinds of subscribers: RSS subscribers and email subscribers.

There you have some measures to determine how a blog’s success is considered.  The traffic, unique visitors, page views, hits, and subscribers are taking time to gain and effort and the success would not happen overnight.

You may know that you have to do keyword research before you pick a domain name for your site.  You also do have to use a keyword to write articles about your affiliate product.  These two are not related, but you use keyword after you did research for the keyword that people are looking for the product.  Here are the pros and cons of doing keyword research.

Easy getting Traffic: If you know that you did the keyword research and know what people are searching for on the internet, and you have a domain that has the keyword in it, you will definitely will get a lot of traffic to your site.  That is the organic traffic that I am talking about.  You and I would know that it would be like icing on the cake if you do a little bit more of search engine optimization (SEO) by writing articles and submit it to the article directories, such as Ezinearticles.

Unavailable domain names: The problem is now a day almost all keyword top level domain names that are in your niche are already taken, especially the three-word or less domain names.  What you have to do is to add another word, such as blog, to that domain name to make it happen.

O.K. That is fine, but when it comes to Google keyword ranking, you would have a hard time to compete with other sites for traffic If those sites are page ranking higher than 5.  It means they have been in the niche for a long time.  Their domain age is probably more than five years old.  You may have a hard time to compete with them.  But I see that you can do your best with seo by generating fresh content so that Google would see your site benefits and hopefully it will give you more page ranking.

What happens if you did not do the keyword research for your domain name?

Well, tough luck! You have to work harder than if you do have a keyword in your domain name.  You might have to buy traffic to your site, otherwise you do not have much traffic at all.  You have to do SEO.  You have to write articles and submit them to article directories.  You have convert them to video and audio format and submit them to Tubemogul and other directories.  You have to use social network websites and social bookmarking sites to expose your site.  As I mentioned, you have to work very harder than if you have a domain name with keyword in it.

Similarly, it is like you know the demand is out there and you just have to provide the supplies to satisfy the demand.  That is going to be an easy sale if you are selling a product.  However, if you do not do research about the market and you make a product that there is no demand for it.  You will NOT make any sales and you will definitely lose money.

In summary, do not just take the keyword lightly when it comes to name your domain name in a particular niche.  If you do not, you will be sorry and be surprised that there are not a lot of traffic to your site.
