internet marketing As you know there are some people who love to flip either websites or domain for their supplement income.  It could be a lucrative business if you keep a tap on the internet market and have a knack on designing and business trade skills.  Read my analysis below if you want to know which one is better between the domain and website flipping.

Domain flipping

Time and Work: It takes less time and work involve to search for a domain that is available.  But the question is, “is there a market for it?” Are they easy to sell?  I have seen a lot of domains at the auction site such as Digital Forum.  They do not have a good domain names.  My conclusion is it is very hard to sell.

Market: The domain market has become pretty saturated over the last couple years and it's made it very difficult to make good money unless you really know what you're doing.  Unless you know some tricks, such as knowing the hot product release, then you may make some money buy grabbing the domain name before it is taken.  You can not get a domain with two or three-word domain now a day.  I am talking about the top level domain (TLD) name.    But it still no guarantee because you do not know what people are looking for.  Remember, internet marketing is a moving target.

Website flipping

Design and Development skills: Website flipping is generally much faster but it all depends on the skill of the person.  Website flipping has to move towards creative designing, development, and implementation.  You must have a passion on design and development or you have an access to development team.  On top of that, you must have a business mind, such as sales and marketing.

 

Easy to sell: There are a lot of people understand the value of a website.  Its value based on the content, design, age, page rankings, traffic, unique visitors, page views, and other factors, such as the script, products, etc…Normally, you can sell a good website for a multiple of annual revenue because the buyer expect to get their money back in one or two year.  It is a good investment.

 

Time and work: This website flipping involves a lot more time than the domain flipping.  However, there is a value that people want if you add a unique design, features, and benefits to website.  If there is a need in the market, you will find it very easy to flip the website.  Your time and investment will pay off if you design what people want. In conclusion, I believe you have to check your profile to see if you have what it take to be a website flipper.  If not, forget about investing your time and money on the domain flipping because the market is saturated.

comment You and I love to have a lot of traffic to our site because you want to share the internet surfers or your readers what you know so that they would learn something useful from you.  Or you want to offer them your solution to their problem.  You  are the expert and authority in a certain subject.

As you all know that traffic means making or breaking business.  If there is no traffic, there is no business.  After having some traffic, we want to have some comment.  You want to engage in a conversation with our readers and want feed back how you are doing.  But how do you get traffic and comment on your blog?

Here are my few suggestions on how to get traffic.

Good design: You must have a unique and brandable website and have a great look and feel.  The great design can draw people’s attention because it has a first impression that your readers would find something cools you offer.  It is a one of a kind environment where they hope they find the solution to their problem.  Good design can also make people to observe around longer than a plain and simple site.

Valuable content: On top of the great design, your posts must have a unique and valuable content that the readers find them useful and informative.  Otherwise your loyal readers would not come back for more information.  On top of that, you would not find any unique visitors either.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO): If your blog is new, you have to submit it to major search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN.  Moreover, your posts should have keyword rich content.  That way you do not have to spend a lot of effort to promote your site.

How do you get comment on your blog?

Content: Again it is imperative to have a good content in the first place in order to have your readers leave you comments.  They want to gain a benefit from your blog before they place their comment.  As you know, they want to have a backlink to their site after they learn a few tips from your blog content.

WP plugins: There are few plugins that can help you get more comments.  The most common ones that most bloggers use are “CommentLuv” and “Top Commentators widget”, “NoFollow Free”, and “CommentRelish”.

Placing comment on other blogs: It seems that commenting on other blog would bring traffic to your site, but remember to place useful comment or to provoke a meaningful discussion so that other readers would benefit from it.

profiles You may know that it is important to apply what you are good at to what you want to do with a site or a blog.  You have to know what area you concentrate on fixing after getting it from the seller.  Let’s make it clear before getting into serious issue about this topic.  You want your profile match with the site that you are going to buy.  Here are my suggestions to you if you are new to this flipping websites as your business adventure.  There are 4 profiles that I can think of.

Which profile do you have?

1- SEO: You are very good at search engine optimization (SEO) but crap at design websites.  You know how make your site SEO friendly and get page ranking faster.  In that case, you need to find a well designed website that needs to be SEO’ed.

2- Monetization: You are very good at monetization strategy.  It includes the affiliate programs, contextual ads, and direct adds.  Then you need to find a site with solid consistent traffic, but very little monthly revenue. And you can upgrade up to speed where you will earn a handsome of money.

3-Design: Here if you are a great designer, you look for a that looks bad, has good rankings for targeted keywords and some revenue and you give it a spit and polish to where you make more profit.

4-Product development: If you are a product development person kind of guy, look for a site that’s got good traffic and targeted keyword rankings, but is only ticking over a small about of AdSense revenue. There could be a good opportunity for you to make a product suited to the audience.

5-Website investor: If you have access to a team of people that can do all or most of the above, find sites with solid monthly revenue and continue to build the online business. Upgrade it to it fullest potential.

You may keep in mind that the buying and selling a blog are a lot like buying and selling any property or investment in a business because there is the value in the property itself and the revenue potential.

Value can be found in the money it generates, the content, traffic it attracts more audience, and the potential it holds. In general, the older the blog is the more attractive it will be. It is not only because it is more favored in SEO circles, but also because its history. When looking at an older blog, the main things to check out are stability growth. You want to see the steady growth of audience, content, and traffic growth. Be sensitive to random spikes and dips. Be concerned if the blog has changed hands a lot.

Here are 10 points you should consider when buying a blog.  They are plan, valuations, audience, content, search ranking, traffic, inbound links, brand, profit, and design.

Plan: Game plan is important strategy to make money. If buy a blog for the income, you need to know how to improve the blog before going into bidding war. If you are looking to flip, you need to be more aggressive in gaining a lower purchase price and be absolutely sure you can add value to it because you profit when you buy, not when you sell it at the peak value. You need to know how much more you could make by adding value both when buying and selling. Tip: When you are looking at a large amount, consider using escrow.

Valuations: How much is the blog is really worth? Other party or parties will value the same blog very differently from how you arrive at a valuation. Don’t be surprised because valuations are subjective and also largely depend on what you are in the deal to achieve. There is no single standard way to value any site. The most common valuation method is based on a multiple of monthly income while taking other factors into account.

Audience: Audiences and niches are important to a valuation. If your audience is super targeted and high-value, full of rich people, your blog will value at a higher price than if you have a small unidentifiable audience of freebie hunters. Never buy a blog because it ranks for many phrases unless those keywords are much sought after. Remember, a search phrase is useful only if people actually each using those keywords and you do so something valuable with the traffic.

Traffic: A blog that attract thousands of visitors month after month extremely valuable. You want to verify that traffic and make sure it is from a reliable source. Ideally, you want a lot of traffic from a variety sources and spread over several places on your blog. Make sure the sellers will not inflate their figures. Sometimes traffic is misleading because of the way the stats are gathered or because they have been pumping the traffic artificially. You need to see reliable stats, not their log analysis. You may want a copy of the logs and analyze them yourself if the only stats available are from the logs.

Inbound Links: Some blogs are bought because of the SEO benefits because of the inbound links. A valuable prospect is a good spread of quality natural links, featuring no link-farmed, fake, or bought links.

Brand: Branding can work both ways: in your favor or against you. A respected and famous brand can be worth a lot of money, but readers might also loyal to the old owner, or the brand might have peaked with no room for improvement.

Profit: You want to get a blog that shows a profit because it will get most attention. Make sure you take revenue figures and you are not taking on liability.  After the determining the profit, you need to find out the followings:

Is that easy to earn that much?

Can you really earn that?

Where the heck does the profit come from?

Can the profits change over time?

How easy is that to grow that profit?

What other potential and revenue sources are there?

Design: You need to look at the design and ask yourself, “Is the design custom of off-the-shelf?” A brilliant custom theme has resale value.
