on page optimization1Whether you are an affiliate or Google Adsense publisher, you need to know about On-page optimization.  It is important because you need to have  your website page rank well on first page of Google. If you don’t, you won’t have a lot of free traffic.  When you don’t have a good traffic, you don’t make money with your site.  However, if you drive paid traffic to your site, no need to worry about on-page optimization, but it may not suitable for you if you’re a noobie.  Also if you have some money, you can outsource this task.  It largely depends on each person individually.

What is on-page optimization?

It is all about the factors that you can control on your site.  And they can affect your web page listing in natural search.  It is ranging from  the HTML code, meta tags, keyword, and keyword density, but some people would include Keyword Research and Analysis, implementation of 301 Permanent Redirect, submission of XML Sitemap, and other items as part of the optimization.  However, I am not going to get into more depth.  I am going to talk about the essential items that you need to know.  And you need  to continue learning SEO as you progress in your Internet business journey.

What can you do with the on-page?

1-You page  Title

It is the most important keyword. The page title  preferably contain the keyword term/phrase as the first word(s) if you want to rank well.

2- Meta Description

Next, your page meta description should be brief and very concise description about content of your page and it should be a unique description.   The limit is 200 characters maximum.  It contributes to the search engine ranking and click-through rate (CTR).

3- Meta keywords

It is a short and precise list of the most important keywords of your page.  They are similar to  the tags in the blog format.  The meta keywords help your site rank well  in your specific keywords .

Note:  When people talk about meta tags, they are usually referring to meta description and the meta keywords.

4-Uniform Resource Locator (URL)

Length

The short URL tends to perform better, however you may not find the exactly short url contained the long tail keyword phrase unless you add a suffix or prefix to it.

Keyword location

The target keyword(s) should be closer to the domain as much as possible.

5-Body tags

    Heading,_h1,h2,h3 keyword density

Your keyword should not be less than 3% percent throughout the content.  Otherwise, the search engines, such as Google,  consider you stuff keyword.  And they may penalize your site.

   H1 headline

It is very important tag for on-page optimization.

h2,h3-they are even less important than the H1 tag and carry very little to SEO value.

   image file name

It can have a big influence on the traffic because it is the source of your blog visit.  It is highly recommended you to use keyword as the name of image on your post.

    Bold

It appears to carry a little SEO value.  However, it is the best practice to bold keyword or keyword phrase at least once in your post.

    Italic/emphasized

I recommend you use these italic/emphasized in your blog post because they are surprisingly carry a little more correlation to the ranking than bold keyword.

story telling

I like to talk about this subject because I recently came across a book, The Story Factor by Annette Simmons.  It is one of many great books are worth mentioning.

Why is it so? It is because I found that having a story in a blog post very interesting when it connects to blog topic.  It communicates to your readers very well.  It has just the purpose you need.

It makes your readers remember the story well and does not need them to work harder to memorize it.  They can retell the story vividly.  They remember it longer because it made a mark to your brain.  It seems so real to them.  It is like the story teller was in their shoes and in the same time period.

You can use a story to make them take action, and persuade them to join your idea.  It can be a motivational tool that persuades them to make a donation for a good cause.  But the question is how a story does that.

It has a power that hooks them through getting inside of their brain.  Then it would connect with them in the level of humanity.  It expresses how they feel after reading story the first time.  If it is a great story, then it would grab their attention through a great bait.  What is a great bait you asked?

The great bait is a frame of view in such a way that it is like their story.  It is like the situation they are having.  And the story would bring the solution to problem or whatever it wants the reader like them to do.  It can be a lesson they want to follow and take action afterward.  Or it can make them pause to think wisely before making a wise decision or taking an action.  It brings the emotion on top of the feeling it may have.

You may say that it is a hypnotic method that the story teller employs.  It may be true because it is so powerful if the story contains the concrete picture.  Why you include a story in your blog, you wondered?

Education

First of all, your goal is to educate your readers.  A story does just that.  They can learn from the story.  They know when to apply what they learned to their real life situation.  The lesson is just another option they can have.

On top of that, a story can influence people to take action in its own way.  It can persuade your readers to buy your product.  This can happen after you show them the social proof, testimonial as your story.

Entertainment

Entertainment is another key you want them to stay and come back in the future  because they learn something from you while having fun at the same time.  It makes the blog more pleasant to read and interesting to find out while learning a new topic or tips.  A story can make them happy to make a conversation with you.

Last but not least, as a blogger you must learn how to create a great story to tell them or you just have a blog with no readership.

Remember a story can influence your readers in such way that you can not control the outcome.   Until then, use your story telling technique as much as you can in your blog and hopefully you would increase your readership quickly.

Buy this book, The Story Factor by Annette Simmons to learn more about the power of story telling.

wp plugins Since the WordPress (WP) is getting so popular recently due to many people are using WP to blog.  Not only one but many blogs, there are going to have a lot of manual work involved Plugins installation.  There is going to be a demand for this kind of plugin if there are more than one person owns more than one blog.

What is a plugin?

It is simple a short simple program what is designed to do what is supposed to do.

A way to install a number of plugins to a blog

Until you find a good software that can manage many plugins in one time, there is an old way to do it.  If you store the unzipped plugin folders (unzip them then open the file again to get to the main plugin folder) you can upload them all quickly by ftp to your wp-content/plugins folder. Then just activate them in your WP dashboard.  It doesn’t take more than 10 minutes.

On Market
There is a product on the market. It is called WordPress Clone at Mass Automation Tools. It copies your blog setting,
plugins, and post to another blog.

New application for plugin installation

At the Warrior forum, there is a survey on an application that allowed you to create a customised version of WordPress that you can use for future installs, with certain items preconfigured.  Here is a sample that you can download it.

http://hotfile.com/dl/38650956/0e0a0d7/DemoWPInstall.zip.html

Here what it does:
  • Customises the blog title and tagline
  • Customises the first post, first page, first comment
  • Customises the links
  • Customises the link and blog categories
  • Adds and autoactivates a custom theme
  • Autoactivates a common plugin

Note: It is in the testing mode.  It may not fully function yet.  Use it at your own risk!

all in one seo plugin I would like to talk about a WP plugin today.  The one I am going to talk about is the, “All in One SEO Pack” plugin. This is one of the plugin that you must have if you have a blog.

Here is the reason I like to talk about it.  It can affect how it displays on your browser when you type your domain.  As I remembered when I set up my blog, I went to back-in of my blog and went to the “General” and entered the title, description, and tags of my new blog, etc…  After a couple months, I wonder why the name of my blog shown on my browser is different from what I set up in the first place.  I did not realize that I set the title under the “General” tab is different from what I set under “All in One SEO Pack” plugin.

Until recently, I found that I entered, “Internet Marketing Online”, instead of “Internet Marketing the Simple Way”on my All in One SEO pack plugin setup and that was the culprit to appear on the browser.  So if you have this kind of problem, you have to look at two places, either under the “All in One SEO Pack” plugin setup or under the general tab of your blog.

Here is how to install “All in One SEO Pack” plugin and how to configure  it.

Installing the All in One SEO Pack Plugin

  • Click on ‘Plugins’ and ‘Add New’
  • Type ‘All in One SEO Pack’ into the search bar and click ‘Search Plugins.’
  • Next to the plugin name in the search results, click ‘Install’ and then ‘Install Now.’
  • Click ‘Activate Plugin.’
  • Go to the plugin admin page.
  • Put in a ‘Home Title’ of your choice.
  • ‘Home Description’ is completely optional.
  • Leave ‘Home Keywords’ blank.
  • Uncheck ‘Canonical URLs.’
  • Uncheck ‘Use Tags for Meta Keywords.’
  • Uncheck ‘Dynamically Generate Keywords for Posts Page.’
  • Uncheck ‘Use Noindex for Categories.’
  • Uncheck ‘Use Noindex for Archives.’
  • Click ‘Update Options.’

deep link engine Before getting into detail about this wonderful plug in.  This deep link engine plugin is related to the pingback.  And some are  confused between the pingback and the trackback.  So I would like to talk about the difference between the pingbacks and the the trackbacks a little bit.   You have pingbacks  when you link to another blog post right in your post; but trackbacks are created only if you put the trackbacks url of a post in the proper field.

what is WP deep-link-engine plugin?

Deep-link-engine plugin is imply a WP plugin that automatically, and systematically gets more links to every blog post you create. You can do it either manually, or automatically.

However, you would need to have WordPress hosted on your server, or hosting account because it was designed to work with stand-alone WordPress.org blogs.

How does it work?

For each blog post you create, the plugin will analyze the content of your post and determine 5-10 keywords; then go out and find relevant blogs related to those keywords. When it is done with finding blogs, you choose which blogs you would like to link to.  Then it lists those blogs under “related blog” heading section of your blog you just posted. It will list all the blogs you approved from the found list, like this: Post title on the remote blog @ blogname.  It means, yes, it creates two-way links. On your blog they are “dofollow” links and on the remote blog it depends on their settings.  On the remote blog the ping appears as post title | your-blog-name.  Actually the plugin creates PINGBACKS.

By linking to the other blogs, it is like we  send a “pingback” notifying their blog’s software that you referenced them on your website. That may lead to deep relevant links to all our blog posts. In the long run, this will make  your ranking power better for internal pages. The best part is easy to do.  Just select the related blogs and it is done.

Deep Link Engine for WordPress is really “push button” link building and it absolutely free.

Click the link to watch Deep link engine plugin Video : WordPress Plugin: Easy Link Building & Deep Link Engine.

Where can you get it?

Click the deep link engine plugin to download it.

Note: I found that it took longer time for the Windows Live writer to post.

keyword research Imagine what you hope your domain would do for you.  It could bring your business to the next level if you have done your keyword research correctly.  It could take lesser time to be in the top 5 of Google page rank or even better.  It could save you your frustration.  Here I talk about free tools you can start with.  If you have money to spend, you can use Market Samarai or Keyword Elite.  My keyword research suggestion tools are following:

SEO for Firefox extension/Keyword Spy add-ons for Firefox: Before you install the SEO for Firefox, make sure you have Firefox browser installed.  Then go to Google and type in the search for SEO for Firefox extension.  For more information about searching and installation this extension watch the Youtube below.

The alternative to SEO for Firefox extension is the Keyword Spy tool.  It has a similar feature to SEO for Firefox.  However, this provides a better function.  You do not need to hit, “?” every time.  It already shows you the PR of every site on Google result.

Google Adwords Keyword tool: Go to Google and check the niche market of your keyword phrase that you are planning to get into.  Look around the players in that niche.

Here is how to set up the search for keyword phrase.  Click to show, “Estimated avg  CPC”, hide the “Local Search volume” , and “Advertiser competition” column and the “Match type” is set to “Exact”.  Click the “Global Monthly search volume” to have it arranged in descent order from bigger to smaller result.

Export your result to Excel spreadsheet by clicking “CSV for Excel” button.  You can shorten “Global monthly search volume” column to just “Volume” , and the “Estimated Avg CPC” to just “CPC” column if you like.  Add another column called, “Potential” column.  Here is the formula for that column, =B2*0.25*C2*0.4*0.05.  The reason you multiply the column “B” with 0.25 is the estimate how much you will get paid by Google adsense if someone clicks the keyword.  And the column “C” is multiplied by 0.4 is the estimate of traffic you are going to get to your site because you have to compete for visitors.  The 0.05 is the estimate of how many people would actually click that keyword out of the a number of a large traffic.  The Excel spread sheet should look like this.

potential2

Now go back to Google search. Turn you SEO for Firefox extension ON.  Click the refresh tap on the top browser or hit the “Search” button.  Click the “?” following the “PR” of each site on the first page of Google.  If you get PR5 or higher on the top 5, do not think about into that niche market.  It is tough to compete with the site with PR5.  Do not waste your time and money.  Try to look for other niches.  Also if the “potential” column is less than $50, do not go further.

Potential Domain: If you find that the first 5 results are PR4 or lower, go to Domain tool site and see if the domain name you want is still available.  if not try to add the online, blog, review, info to the domain name you intended to have.  Try to get the top level domain (TLD) name as dot com or dot net.

Aren’t you tired of the generic and simple dashboard and you want to make it different?  If you said, “Yes”, there is a simple way to do customize it in WordPress.  You can move “QuickPress” section around or you can simple move your favorite section such as “Recent Drafts” up.

You can just click the section that you like and drag it to the place where you prefer.  You move each one up or down if you like.

Watch the video below for more detail.

web hosting The purpose of writing this post is to give you a few tips on how to prepare for transferring host provider.  You will NOT go through the bad experience that I did when I switched the web host provider from the Hostgator to Bluehost.  I do not want you to learn the hard way as I did.  Read on and I promise you will learn something valuable.

First I like the service the Hostgator provided to me and other subscribers.  The one problem I did not like was, when I asked for a discount on converting from the monthly to annually payment.  I had no choice but to find another provider.  Then I searched and found the Bluehost which is not the best as Hostgator, but I found it economical because I could get one FREE domain along with the hosting service as long as I have my domain hosted there.  So far I think Bluehost is just average guy in the web hosting business in my opinion.

My number one tip and fore most is you do not have to take the technical support guy advice all the time.  I said it because I found that they did not have the experience through hands-on.  They just know from reading or classroom training.  This happened when I asked them on how to prepare for transferring a server.  I was told to use the cpanel and do the full backups.  That is wrong you can not use it to restore your whole account that way.  You can use only the databases of your account to transfer them to your new host.

Here is my instruction for transferring your host if you have just WordPress blog(s):

1- Before you go ahead and cancel your account, go to your cpanel>>backup, click each of your databases and backup them to your desktop or your local hard drive.  Also backup your images, plugins, themes folders of each of your domains.  Write down all of your login names and pass words.

2- After the cancellation, go to your new host provider see if they have Fantastico or WP on their cpanel.  Use one of them to install the WordPress blog.

3- Use FTP (Filezella) to access to your server.  Transfer all databases, images, plugins, themes to each individual domain.  Mostly they are under the “Content” directory.  Select the directories appropriately according to your domain.

4- Upload your theme file if you did modify it.

5- Go back cpanel >>backup>>select your new database>>import to your blog and check it to see it working properly the way it was before transferring.
