If you have some money to spend as an internet marketer, you may want to buy aged domain for your internet business.  It can be used for your affiliate marketing purpose or other advantages, such passing link to other sites.  The aged domain can speed up your Google page rank in terms of a specific keyword because Google trusts the old sites with page ranking and gives more credit to them than the brand new sites.  Searching for an aged domain takes time and dedication.  To make sure you get what you pay for and don’t get scammed by scammers, you must do you due diligence.  Here are the 5 points to follow: 

1-Check the drop

Check the domain to make sure there is no more than one drop.  A drop means it falls off registry.   Go to http://whois.domaintools.com/  to check see if it has drops.  One drop is O.K., but two or more is too risky. 

2-Is that real page rank (PR)?

Here is what you do to find out if it is a real PR or not.  Go to Google.com and type the following into the search box.
info:yourdomain.com .  And hit enter key.  Make sure they have the same domain name in the search box as the name in the search box.  If the result is different, then you have a fake PR.

3-Do the inner pages have any PR?

To check to see if the domain has inner pages with PR, go to Google and type the following in the search box.  site:yourdomainname.com.

4- Check the backlinks

To see if the domain has any backlinks,  go to seo spyglass to check back link.  You NEEDS TO HAVE 2 OR MORE EQUAL BACKLINKS in order to be acceptable.  One backlink is not good enough.

5-feedback score

If you buy an aged domain from Digital Point, you should look at the feedback score of the seller and make sure it is at least 10 or better. 

Tip: Other than that you need to build a relation ship with the broker  who is selling domain as their business.  You can have a privilege to look at the domains before they go to market place such as Flippa.

Some people even go further.  They want to check the domain to make sure it does not show a red flag by Google Adsense.  You can use the Google  adsense preview tool  to do that.

If you are a seller, you may have to prepare to show data and information about your site.  Here is some vital information you need to show the prospects:

1. How much a site worth?
2. Traffic stat
3. How much is the monthly revenue?
4. How much work to maintain traffic and income? And what kinds of tasks are required on a daily basis
5. What is Alexa ranking on your site?
6. How much do you have to spend to run/maintain the site?
7. What other assets do the sites have?
8. What does it come with the site?  Like the theme or members if it is a membership site, customer base?
9. Tell your prospect about the content of your site if it is unique?
10. Any special software needed for the site and whether licenses are transferable
11. Server costs
12. Age of Site
13. Key Audience
14. Reason for Selling -Some buyers or site where you are flipping your site might ask for this.

4. Traffic – Must come from diverse areas.
5. Page Rank – Not Less than pr3 is more advisable.

8. You need Escrow.com account for transferring cash for buying a site.

Website Assessment Tools

1. Seocentro.com- for the Page Rank of the site
2. Alexa.com- for ranking
3. Seomoz.org/linkscape – to verify how many unique domain is pointing to the site
4. Semrush.com – shows the list of keywords that the site ranks for in Google.
5. Pick the above keyword and run it on Google keyword research to get an idea of the profitability.
6. Way Back Machine

Internet Archive: Wayback Machine – tells you how a site looks like in the past.

Best practice to monetize a site:

1. Adsense
2. Premium Advertising/Text Link Ads
3. Affiliate program
4. Optimizing the site for search engine

Special Note

Here is important note about buying aged domain that you may want to take into consideration.  It is more advanced SEO type of things because you must know how to maintain the page ranking by doing backlinking to the domains.  On top of that, each of these domains needs to be set up on separate C class Ip addresses so you’re going to need to buy SEO specialized hosting such as SEO Hosting from Hostgator.
Once you’ve got your hosting set up you’ll want to throw up a WordPress blog on each of these domains. Add some relevant articles with backlinks pointing to your money site and BOOM watch your sites skyrocket to the top.

As you know there are some people who love to flip either websites or domain for their supplement income.  It could be a lucrative business if you keep a tap on the internet market and have a knack on designing and business trade skills.  Read my analysis below if you want to know which one is better between the domain and website flipping.

Domain flipping

Time and Work: It takes less time and work involve to search for a domain that is available.  But the question is, “is there a market for it?” Are they easy to sell?  I have seen a lot of domains at the auction site such as Digital Forum.  They do not have a good domain names.  My conclusion is it is very hard to sell.

Market: The domain market has become pretty saturated over the last couple years and it's made it very difficult to make good money unless you really know what you're doing.  Unless you know some tricks, such as knowing the hot product release, then you may make some money buy grabbing the domain name before it is taken.  You can not get a domain with two or three-word domain now a day.  I am talking about the top level domain (TLD) name.    But it still no guarantee because you do not know what people are looking for.  Remember, internet marketing is a moving target.

Website flipping

Design and Development skills: Website flipping is generally much faster but it all depends on the skill of the person.  Website flipping has to move towards creative designing, development, and implementation.  You must have a passion on design and development or you have an access to development team.  On top of that, you must have a business mind, such as sales and marketing.

Easy to sell: There are a lot of people understand the value of a website.  Its value based on the content, design, age, page rankings, traffic, unique visitors, page views, and other factors, such as the script, products, etc…Normally, you can sell a good website for a multiple of annual revenue because the buyer expect to get their money back in one or two year.  It is a good investment.

Time and work: This website flipping involves a lot more time than the domain flipping.  However, there is a value that people want if you add a unique design, features, and benefits to website.  If there is a need in the market, you will find it very easy to flip the website.  Your time and investment will pay off if you design what people want. In conclusion, I believe you have to check your profile to see if you have what it take to be a website flipper.  If not, forget about investing your time and money on the domain flipping because the market is saturated.

Which profile do you have?

1- SEO: You are very good at search engine optimization (SEO) but crap at design websites.  You know how make your site SEO friendly and get page ranking faster.  In that case, you need to find a well designed website that needs to be SEO’ed.

2- Monetization: You are very good at monetization strategy.  It includes the affiliate programs, contextual ads, and direct adds.  Then you need to find a site with solid consistent traffic, but very little monthly revenue. And you can upgrade up to speed where you will earn a handsome of money.

3-Design: Here if you are a great designer, you look for a that looks bad, has good rankings for targeted keywords and some revenue and you give it a spit and polish to where you make more profit.

4-Product development: If you are a product development person kind of guy, look for a site that’s got good traffic and targeted keyword rankings, but is only ticking over a small about of AdSense revenue. There could be a good opportunity for you to make a product suited to the audience.

5-Website investor: If you have access to a team of people that can do all or most of the above, find sites with solid monthly revenue and continue to build the online business. Upgrade it to it fullest potential.
