You and I love to have a lot of traffic to our site because you want to share the internet surfers or your readers what you know so that they would learn something useful from you.  Or you want to offer them your solution to their problem.  You  are the expert and authority in a certain subject.

As you all know that traffic means making or breaking business.  If there is no traffic, there is no business.  After having some traffic, we want to have some comment.  You want to engage in a conversation with our readers and want feed back how you are doing.  But how do you get traffic and comment on your blog?

Here are my few suggestions on how to get traffic.

Good design: You must have a unique and brandable website and have a great look and feel.  The great design can draw people’s attention because it has a first impression that your readers would find something cools you offer.  It is a one of a kind environment where they hope they find the solution to their problem.  Good design can also make people to observe around longer than a plain and simple site.

Valuable content: On top of the great design, your posts must have a unique and valuable content that the readers find them useful and informative.  Otherwise your loyal readers would not come back for more information.  On top of that, you would not find any unique visitors either.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO): If your blog is new, you have to submit it to major search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN.  Moreover, your posts should have keyword rich content.  That way you do not have to spend a lot of effort to promote your site.

How do you get comment on your blog?

Content: Again it is imperative to have a good content in the first place in order to have your readers leave you comments.  They want to gain a benefit from your blog before they place their comment.  As you know, they want to have a backlink to their site after they learn a few tips from your blog content.

WP plugins: There are few plugins that can help you get more comments.  The most common ones that most bloggers use are “CommentLuv” and “Top Commentators widget”, “NoFollow Free”, and “CommentRelish”.

Placing comment on other blogs: It seems that commenting on other blog would bring traffic to your site, but remember to place useful comment or to provoke a meaningful discussion so that other readers would benefit from it.

As you know if you do not have a list you leave some money on the table.  That is why some internet marketers use a double option, one opt-in is for the advertiser and another one is for themselves.  Here are some of my suggestions on how to build your list.

Free Report or eBook: Free report or free eBook works as an incentive to people to provide their email addresses.  They would exchange their email addresses with your report or email if you are offering something of real value.  A valuable and unique content with neat graphic illustration not only helps you get more subscribers signed up, but also makes your point across clearly.  However, you have to do a research and make sure your niche is hot so that it would be easy for you to promote it.

Paid traffic: If you have some money to spend to bring traffic to your site or blog, you may test the niche using Yahoo and MSN Pay Per Click (ppc) before you move on to ppc through Google adwords.  You could try PPC traffic as a small test and see if it’s working out for you.

Join venture: You can leverage the join venture relationship.  But before doing so , you need to build a good relationship with your join venture partner.  You must at least have a valuable product that is hot in your niche and your partner has the list.  You can negotiate with your partner so that you both would have a win-win result.

Article writing: It is one of the ways to build your list if you have a useful and unique information that provides what the readers want.  It must be compelling and hypnotic article with the solution to their problem or pain.

Other ways: Placing comment on blogs related to your niche and placing your signature at the related forums can get you some subscribers.  Then once you have a few of them you can join a giveaway.

I believe you must promote your blog or site heavily and those activities take time to see the result before you have a little or some traffic to your blog or site in order to build your list.  While doing so, you must setup your squeeze page. That should get you started.  Then you can try some of my above suggestions.

You probably know that people are saying content is KING.  Good blog content can make your business move forward.  It can break it or make it.  If you have good blog content, you surely will get traffic to your blog and the only remaining task you need to do is to promote your blog.  You have to let the world know that you have it so that they would visit your blog.  But make sure you serve what they are looking for.  Otherwise, there is no flood of traffic.   Here are some tips that you can use and implement them right now.

Add value: Here you do not have to be the same as everyone else is posting. You can be a little bit difference by adding your opinion, analysis, experience, and knowledge, etc…  I would say it best for you to ask yourself if you added value to your post before publishing it.  You can do this by looking back to your post by telling your readers what you think and by looking forward and predicting what it would be in the future.  You many know that your readers rely on you as a news source and want to know your opinion on that particular subject.

Ask questions: This is a way to engage a communication between you and your readers and a way to get a feedback from them.  You might learn some useful tips from them and you never know.  It is similar to this phrase, “You do not know what you don’t know.” or “Nobody knows everything!”.  So it is better to ask questions and get some insight into how they think.  That is why my posts ending with, “What do you think?”

Take Feedback seriously: It is better to take your readers’ questions seriously when they place their comments on your blog.  You know that it matters to them and likely  matters to other readers too.  So take care of those questions promptly because your readers are eager to know your answers or opinion on those questions.

Tell your story: Tell your true story related to the post and you find that it would bring the topic alive because it is real experience on how you learned what you are talking about. It would make the topic more interesting and learning at the same time.  Try to add some expressions and emotion to it and you see the readers want to stick with you.

Entertain: The purpose here is to be playful and learn new things.  So be funny and humorous, and surprise your readers by adding a little spice.  You know, “ Spice is a variety of life”.  Try to entertain them as much as you can.

Inform: I have seen some bloggers that ask their readers what they want to learn and answer their questions by writing the posts about those topics.  You can write posts “How to” or “Tips” posts to satisfy your readers.

Build community: Write posts with your heart and soul and take care of your readers, ask them questions, and answer their questions, encourage them to participate as much as possible.   Welcome their opinion and discussion is the key.

How do build and interactive blog?  As you know that the beauty of blogging is to converse in nature.  You, a blogger, start the conversation and others respond in comments on your blog or in posts on their own.  Write in such a way that you invite others to participate, and you will grow a more dynamic blog.   Here are a few tips on getting more comments for your blog.

Invite comments: Just ask your readers to comment.  That is so simple as that.  Give your readers a call to action to comment and they will.  If you use WordPress Plugins, there are four of them that you can use to encourage comments on your blog.  They are CommentLuv, Top Commentator, DoFollow, and Subscribe to Comments.

Ask questions: Including specific question in posts helps get higher numbers of comments.  It is the case where you put a question in the title of the post.  It makes the readers to pay attention to the answer to the question.

Be open-ended: Because you have covered what they might have added, you are less likely to get others adding their opinions.  This happens when you say everything on the topic.

Interact with comments left: Interact with your readers if they leaves a comment.  Doing so would show them their comments are valued.  It creates a two-way communication a culture of interactivity.  And it gives the impression to other readers that your comments section is an active place.

Be humble: Your readers would respond very well to the posts that show your own weakness, failing, and the gaps in your own knowledge.

Be controversial: The controversy would get people commenting on your blog.  However, It comes with rick and the potential for being attacked.  So use it with caution.

Reward comments: When there are good comments, reward them by highlighting them on your blog.  Doing this would draws attention of other readers to good use of your comments section.

Shape your blog’s culture: Be aware that you set the tone for your blog’s culture.  Note that your readers will take your lead when it comes to tone they use in your comment section.  If you write posts in an angry and personal attacking style, you will see this reflection.

Establish boundaries: Establish boundaries up front on what is and isn’t acceptable in comments.  You might wand to post your blog rules and comment policy if you want to because it is your blog.  Having boundaries will help you in your comment moderating.
