You probably have a notice already after surfing the internet and getting to a lot of sites as well as blogs. You may have a feeling what makes a blog stand out when you see a blog that appeals to you. Here are my thoughts about a great blog that differentiates itself from other blogs.
1. Content: A blog stands out when they update more often and the content is arranged in reverse-chronological order with the most recent post on the top of the main page. It delivers fresh content frequently. If you compare it to a website, you see that a site is static. It is there for ages until some thing happens, such as new business direction.
2. Syndication: The blog provides more syndication than the website does. You can read a blog in a web browser just like any website, plus you can read the content through a form of “feed”. This feature allows readers with appropriate software to read the blog posts when they are published without visiting the site, for example feedreader.
3. Conversation: The style of a blog is quite different from other websites. They mostly tend to be like a conversational type where readers can participate by asking questions. The readers as well as the author of the blog post learn something new related to the topic. On top of that, the author can control the conversation by deleting the questions if he/she feels inappropriate for the post or whenever he or she does not like it. Unlike the tradition website where you do not establish a two-way communication between the author and the audience.
4. Look and feel: I notice some blogs stand out by having a design that is related to the niche that they are in. Mostly, it is the blog header. It is not the same way as a website design. You can tell by first landing on the latest post. You can see the blog header that expresses the intension of blog. Some even go further by not having any advertisement on the blog. The differentiation is a way to compete for audience.
